FAQ - Recording and Video clip

Q1: How to do recording?

  1. There are 4 ways to do recording and it depends on what model of camera you use. 1) For all models, you can use our bundled software to do recording. For 2000 series product, you should have ST2202 or ST2403; for 3000, 6000, 7000 series products, you should have ST3402. Please download the quick guide-1 for recording in ST3402.
  2. If you use IP7000 series camera, you can use the vide clip event to do recording. Please refer to quick guide-2, which takes PT7137 for example. (Suite to IP7137/IP7135/PT7137/PT7135) Or to refer to the quick guide-3, which takes IP7138 for example. (Suite to IP7138/IP7139/IP7151/FD7131/VS7100)
  3. If you use IP7138/VS7100, you can "Recording" function to do the recording. Please refer to the quick guide-4, which takes IP7138 for example.
  4. If you use IP7138/VS7100, you can record the video directly from the Plug-in. Please refer to the quick guide-5, which takes IP7138 for example.

Q2: What player should I use to playback the *.mp4 files recorded by MPEG-4?

You can use Real player, Quick Time, Mpegable player, VLC player to play *.mp4 files recorded by MPEG-4.

Q3: What player should I use to playback the *mp4 files recorded by MJPEG (JPEG)?

Please use VLC 0.8.6 version to playback *.mp4 files recorded by MJPEG (JPEG). You can go to VLC web site to download this player.

Q4: Why can't I playback *.mp4 files even I use QuickTime player?

Please check the version of your QuickTime player first. If you are using QuickTime 7.2 version and using AMR as your audio codec, please change the *.mp4 file name to *.3gp. The following is the "file format vs. players" list:

MPEG4+AAC

  • .mp4 supports QuickTime, RealPlayer, VLC player
  • .3gp supports QuickTime, RealPlayer, VLC player

MPEG4+AMR

  • .mp4 supports RealPlayer, VLC player (only video)
  • .3gp supports RealPlayer, VLC player (only video), QuickTime

MJPEG+AAC

  • .mp4 supports VLC player
  • .3gp supports VLC player

MJPEG+AMR

  • .mp4 supports VLC player (only video)
  • .3gp supports VLC player (only video)

Q5: Why can't I playback the video clip sent to FTP server?

It maybe due to the low network bandwidth.

Please adjust the video size to smaller and use "constant bit rate =128Kbps or lower value" (in Audio and Video page) to suit to your network bandwidth and try again.
